Ok Ok good guesses all but the answer is they were the first (maybe only) to kill off a main character.
Now I will ask if anyone knows who that might have been?

Wow! Wasn't even close!
The character that died was Lt. Col Henry Blake. Plan shot down over the Sea of Japan as he was being returned home to the states.
My answer to the second question will be, conception...and that's a guess. Obviously.
i agree with riquel about col blake being killed off the show.

I'm going to guess there's a high birth rate in December...thinking it's a bit over 9 months from Valentine's Day, but it could happen...I guess...

Ohh, you know, Karen C is on the right track, I think...The Holiday Season does see an increase of depressive episodes in people, and I think I read that Christmas Week through the New Years holiday the suicide rate is at the highest point than on average...how grim...
the answer of course was Col. Blake....but since that time there has been another major charectar to be killed off, although they had to do it because he died in real life. Actually as i type this I can think of another show, that I never saw in the past few years, where this happened as well.
The one I was thinking of was my favorite show and last year the actor who played Leo McGarry, who was the Presidents chief of Staff untill he had a heart attack on the show, and then became a political advisor, and eventually the democratic VP nominee in the final season, but died during filming of the last season, but after some of the shows had already aired.
a couple years back John Riter died, and likewise they had scramble to make his wife in the show a single mom, so that they could continue the show the rest of that season. The show was "7 simple rules for dating my daughter," or something like that.
I used to have a list on my computer of 10 simple rules, but some reason the shows name used a different number.
