About today's question [feeling lucky now...], I had always thought it was a reference to the copper police badges.
But a recent show on law enforcment happened to mention that the word "cop" meant "to grab" or "nab" or otherwise catch criminals.
It is disputed, but most people in the know seem to agree that it is a shortening of copper. But where did the term come from? At one time people reportedly showed copper coins as they passed a policeman thus calling them copper.
ml - If we focus on language...there are several languages that the term may have come from each seem to translate in english to "to take," I believe that is what you are refering to.
I have 2 children a 12 year old girl and an 11 year old boy. Wow that is an old picture. I have two cats. Two girls. I would love to have more but can not right now. In the future I will.
